Ageing

The process of ageing is defined as the accumulation of structural and functional changes in an organism as time passes. From the peak fertility and physiological functioning of the organism until death, the changes emerge as a decline. In a broader sense, ageing refers to individual cells inside an organism that have stopped dividing. Ageing doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a gradual process that can feel more cyclical than linear.

Aggravators of Ageing
Sleeping habits

Your body can rest and renew cells while you sleep. Poor sleep quality has been linked in several studies to accelerated ageing and a weakened skin barrier.

Alcohol

Alcohol causes the release of more stress hormones in the body, speeding up the ageing process. It also has an effect on the proper functioning of your digestive system, making it more difficult to absorb important nutrients. Excessive alcohol consumption dehydrates the body. Dehydration can cause your skin to droop and lose its form over time.

Smoking

Toxins in cigarette smoke cause oxidative stress on your skin and also hasten its natural ageing process. This results in wrinkles and other changes to your face. Smoking causes irreversible harm to your skin and accelerates the ageing process.

Stress

Stress can cause wrinkles by breaking down the skin’s collagen and elastin with high levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. Chronic stress has been shown in studies to induce inflammation, which causes skin ageing and wrinkle production. A stressful lifestyle can cause an inflammatory reaction in the body and disrupt sleep patterns. Stress hormones and inflammation speed up the ageing process.

Symptoms of Premature Ageing
Hair Loss

Hair loss occurs when the cells responsible for your hair growth present in your hair follicles start to trigger new hair growth die. Hormone fluctuations, environmental circumstances, genetics, and your diet all influence how rapidly this occurs. Hair loss affects up to 40% of women over the age of 70. Hair loss strikes men earlier, with 50% of men experiencing it after the age of 50.
